Chyenne’s Story – The Heart Behind CM Performance Horses
CM Performance Horses began in 2019, when Chyenne Mortenson was asked to tune up and sell a couple of horses on consignment. That opportunity quickly turned into a passion for training and developing top-tier performance horses.
Horses have always been a part of Chyenne’s life. Raised in Cherokee, Iowa, on a cattle, hog, and row crop operation, she learned early on the value of hard work, patience, and dedication. At just 8 years old, her cousin—a former Miss Rodeo Iowa 2004—introduced her to the world of horses, igniting a passion that would shape her future.
Since then, Chyenne’s experience has spanned multiple disciplines, including:

✔ 4H, NBHA, and Iowa High School Rodeo Association
✔ South Dakota State University Rodeo Team
✔ Interstates Rodeo Association & Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association
✔ WPRA & PRCA Rodeos as a WPRA Card Holder
Today, she competes at local jackpots and PRCA rodeos while focusing on training, breeding, and developing future champions at CM Performance Horses. Known for her ability to build solid foundations and competition-ready barrel horses, Chyenne’s goal is to create a program that produces elite-level athletes for the futurity and rodeo world.
At CM Performance Horses, our vision is to become a premier source for developing elite barrel racing and performance horses—both in the training barn and through our breeding program. We strive to produce horses that are competitive, confident, and well-prepared for the demands of the futurity, rodeo, and performance world.
